Move the artwork before clearing furniture

Photograph the arrangement and note the outside frame dimensions if you want to recreate it. Remove each frame with adequate assistance and place it in a clean, stable area away from the work zone. Do not leave pictures leaning behind furniture that will also be moved.

Keep hanging parts associated with the correct frame. Label a separate bag or record rather than attaching tape to the artwork or frame finish. If a frame is large, fragile, or already damaged, arrange professional handling before the decorating schedule makes the move hurried.

Choose a real temporary storage space

Use a dry indoor room with enough space to support and protect the frames. Keep them away from household traffic, children, pets, and likely leaks. Separate surfaces so glazing and molding do not rub against one another. A garage or damp basement is not automatically a better choice simply because it is outside the painting area.

Do not wrap a delicate surface with an unfamiliar material and compress it under other objects. Ask a framer about suitable protection for an unusual finish. The temporary arrangement should make it easy to retrieve the frames without unstacking an unstable pile.

Wait for the room to be ready

Follow the paint manufacturer's drying, curing, and ventilation guidance for the actual product and conditions. A surface that feels dry may not yet be ready for objects to rest against it. Avoid inventing a universal waiting period that ignores the paint and room environment.

Inspect the wall and mounting points before rehanging. Repairs or fresh paint may have concealed old holes or changed the attachment area. Reconfirm that the hardware is suitable for the wall and frame weight rather than assuming the previous installation can be reused unchanged.

Reinstall deliberately

Clean the work area and move ladders and tools out of the handling route before bringing art back. Compare the new wall color with the frame and mat; the relationship may look different even when the layout stays the same. Use your photograph as a reference, not an obligation to recreate every position.

Check the frame's condition after temporary storage and verify the attachment when it is back on the wall. If paint, moisture, or dust reached the artwork, do not attempt a household cleaning treatment. Ask an appropriate professional to assess it before the problem becomes hidden inside a finished room.
